There are certain things to be kept in mind before building and installing a fence. Permission has to be taken from Homeowners Association and Building Department. Neighbors also have to be conveyed. For positioning the cables pipes, electricity, telephone and sewage companies have to be contacted. The uneven garden has to be leveled and it has to be decided whether to erect the fence on all four sides of the garden or only on the three sides.
When all the above tasks have been completed, the perimeter of the garden should be measured which will help in determining the number of panels needed to build a complete wooden fence. 6 feet panels are ideal for fence and few extra additional panels are also better to buy. Normal lumber can also be used it has to be painted before or immediately after installing the fence.
For completing the task, the materials needed are; fence panels with dimensions of 6 feet by 8 feet, fence posts of 8 feet by 4 inch by 4 inch, deck screws of 2 inch in length, pre-hinged gate and latch and concrete. The tools needed are; hammer, measuring tape, screwdriver, saw, level, wheelbarrow and level.
First, the fence post has to be installed. Using a post-hole digger, dig a hole in one corner of the garden. Place the fence post and pour concrete. For ensuring that the post remains upright, it should be braced up with a piece of lumber. Fix the second post exactly 8 feet away from the center of the first one. The remaining fence posts now can be installed in a similar manner. Next, the panels have to be installed. Using deck screws, attach the panels to the posts on either side. At least 2 screws have to be used to fix the panels to the fence posts. To install the gate, posts should be present on either side. Mark the position on these posts where the hinges would be placed. Using the electric driller, drill holes and install the gate with the help of deck screws. Finally, the latch to the gate can be attached.
